At nearly 20,000 kmΒ² β€” larger than Wales β€” Kruger is Africa's most accessible Big Five safari destination. It has over 147 mammal species, 507 bird species, and 114 reptile species. You can self-drive (highly recommended for the freedom it gives), stay in SANParks rest camps, or book a private lodge on the park's borders for the full luxury experience. The southern and central sections have the highest Big Five density.

Getting there:
Fly to Kruger Mpumalanga International (MQP) or Hoedspruit (HDS). Self-drive from Johannesburg: 5 hrs.
Tip:
The best sightings are 06:00–10:00 and 15:00–19:00. Midday is quiet. Water holes are reliable leopard spots.
