Eastern Cape

The birthplace of Nelson Mandela and many other liberation struggle leaders, the Eastern Cape is one of South Africa's most politically significant provinces. It is also one of its most naturally varied. Addo Elephant National Park anchors the wildlife experience, the Wild Coast remains one of the last truly remote coastal regions in Africa, and surf towns like Jeffreys Bay pull in a very different crowd. Inland, mountain villages and university towns add literary, artistic and historical depth.
